About this time every summer, the town starts getting a little restless. People talk. Plans get made and massive amounts of sunscreen are purchased. It's Country Jam time!
For the past God-knows-how-many-years the last weekend of June (June 25 - 28 this year) in the Grand Valley is punctuated by four days of hip swayin', toe-tappin', beer drinkin' fun. People come from all over the country to experience this outdoor concert extravaganza just outside Grand Junction. And this year could just be the best ever with great entertainers and cooler-than-average weather.
As a woman who grew up in Wyoming, I've ripped my arms off "swingin" to many a great country band and let me just say, this event is a must for country music fans. Sawyer Brown is coming back for the 11th time, so THEY must be having fun! Other performers include Pat Green (one of my favorites), Phil Vassar, Jason Aldean, Big & Rich, Clay Walker, Randy Owen and Blake Shelton to name a few. Then, on Sunday evening, Montgomery Gentry takes the main stage to work their wonders with rich, gravelly vocals and soul-stirring lyrics. I don't know about you, but some of their songs make me a little teary-eyed.
VIP tickets are the way to go with seating up close and a special hospitality tent filled with delicious food and frosty drink. However, the general admission route is much cheaper. Just be sure to bring a fold out chair to sit in. The whole shabang is under the baby blue Colorado skies so bring sunscreen and a hat. There's still time to get a hotel and event tickets. Come join the fun! Who knows, it just might become an annual thing... For more info. log onto http://countryjamgjco.countryjam.com.
