Summer is officially over for me. The kids headed back to school today and I will try to assemble somewhat of a schedule again. (I can always dream!).
However, while the temps are still pleasant (great warm days and cool nights) there's one more big, end-of-summer event to hit: Wells Fargo's Annual "Evening Under the Stars." I really consider this more of a gift than an event. Each year the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (which by-the-way is phenomenal!), kindly provides a music extravaganza for the public - FOR FREE!
The music gets underway at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 22 at Lincoln Park in GJ. All you have to do is show up with a lawn chair or blanket or whatever you want to keep your bum comfy, some goodies for a picnic, a sweater or sweatshirt and maybe some bug spray. Better yet leave the picnic basket at home and support the symphony by buying a brat and sauerkraut provided by the Grand Junction Symphony Guild.
The Grand Junction Centennial Band and the Talking Rhythms Percussion Ensemble will also perform at the concert. All three musical groups are invaluable to Grand Junction. Not only do they entertain with exceptional music, they provide wonderful educational experiences that inspire young musicians, artists and the general public. We are very fortunate to have them all!
I think "Evening Under the Stars" is THE perfect way to bid adieu to summer and welcome the festivities of fall. So, go, enjoy and gear up for an exciting calendar of events in GJ this autumn!
