"It was spectacular!" So stated a friend of mine who dropped into the studio yesterday after a hike on the Grand Mesa. She, of course, was referring to the incredible fall colors. Made me want to drop my paintbrush, pull on my hikin' boots and head on up the "hill"!
Then, I remembered "Color Sunday" is this Sunday up on the Mesa. Not only is there the incredible fall foliage to revel in, but the restaurants are open and there's even live music. And, if you want a better view, ride the ski lift to the top. For the more active, there's disc golf and tons of hiking.
Then, if you want to take in (and purchase) some great art, head to "The Outsiders" Color Sunday Sale at Wilda Fortune's cabin on the Mesa. Wonderful women artists with incredible art deals! Just follow the signs.
For all the "low landers" who want to partake in fun this weekend, there's the Fruita Fall Festival, voted "Best of the West" in 2008. Now in its 95th year, it just simply gets bigger and better! With more than 150 vendors with everything from earrings to great eats, a street dance, magic show, carnival, baking and canning contests, and the Rimrock Rodeo Finals, you really can't miss. Besides that, there'll be TONS of music and more food than you can shake a drumstick at! It all happens this Friday through Sunday. And the best part -- it's FREE admission! For more info. go to www.fruitafallfestival.com.
One last thing. Mark your calendars right now for October 10 and 11th. It's the Fall Open Studios Tour in the Grand Valley and if you're into art it's a MUST GO! More on that later.
Until then... HAVE FUN!
